PIA hosts regional Advisory Council meetings twice a year for principals and/or owners of member agencies to discuss issues of common interest and concern. The council meetings are informal, round-table discussions at which members give their opinions on the industry's hottest issues; tell PIA what is important to agents in their area; influence the association's positions, programs and services; and network with peers.
Participation in PIA's Advisory Council program offers you the opportunity to:
Expand your professional network
Increase your knowledge and experiences
Contribute to your industry
Grow into PIA leadership positions
What is an Advisory Council?
PIA's Advisory Councils are regionally focused groups of PIA members, volunteers and staff who get together informally to discuss issues affecting the insurance industry.
Why are Advisory Councils important?
Information from the Advisory Council meetings is shared with PIA's board and committee members, management and staff and provides valuable feedback to the association in shaping the future of the organization.
Council participation also may serve as a springboard to serving on the association's committees and board of directors for those seeking greater involvement in the governance of the association.
Feedback from past Advisory Council meetings has led to many of PIA's current products and services including PIA's human resources service, PIA HR Info Central, the Agency Staffing Assistance Program and the Take Back Personal Lines campaign.
What happens at an Advisory Council meeting?
Advisory Council members have the opportunity to engage in an informative discussion on what is happening in the insurance industry. This includes addressing issues on a national, state and local basis. Council members are provided with a brief agenda prior to the meetings outlining what topics are to be discussed and are given the opportunity to bring new topics to the group.
When are the Advisory Council meetings held?
The Advisory Council meetings are held in September/October and March/April each year. Specific dates and times are made available to Advisory Council members three months prior to the meeting.
How many Advisory Council Meetings are there?
There are currently two Advisory Council meetings held in Connecticut in the following regions:
Western Connecticut (Shelton)
Central Connecticut (Hartford)
What is expected if I join an Advisory Council?
Participation on an Advisory Council is simple:
Attend two short meetings a year (two hours in length, conducted over breakfast or lunch)
Provide feedback on benefits and services
Provide feedback on hot button legislative issues
